SolRing
Large number of people worldwide have no access to a basic energy: electricity. They cannot switch on the lights in the evening. They cannot connect to the Internet. They cannot charge their phones.
This leads to poverty, hinders development, limits the human potential and forces millions of people on migration journeys in search of a better life. All this can be improved by one thing – a device which will manage a local energy source (eg. a solar panel), a household battery (eg. a car battery) and will distribute the energy according to needs and schedule of the house.
That device is SolRing.
SolRing – energy for everyone
No need to limit ourselves to developing world, either. Remote houses, houseboats, mobile homes – all locations where connection to the grid is unavailable or unreliable. Summer house alarm in a blackout? Charge your phone on a houseboat? SolRing will take care of that.
What is SolRing?
SolRing is the control unit of a modular system, using commonly available components and converting them into an intelligent energy solution. Solar panel or wind turbine. Car battery or any other battery. Connect your appliances – computer, lighting, home alarm, phone charger. Anything.
Why is the control unit SolRing needed? Renewable sources are inexhaustible, but unpredictable. Will the sun shine right on time when we need to connect to the net? Provided the sun will rise tomorrow at seven o’clock, how long can we listen to the radio, until the battery is depleted?
SolRing collects information about predicted charging, pre-programmed consumption schedule and current battery charge and manages or turns off low priority devices, keeping energy reserves for the critical systems.
SolRing is also a backup in case of a black-out. Household’s basic energy need will be safeguarded – you can still turn the lights on, receive messages and charge your phone.
You can control SolRing via a smartphone app. Left on its own, it follows the programmed instructions and it’s own clever algorithm. It knows present situation, it has the energy history and predicts future consumption.
Development & Production
SolRing does not exist on paper only. Development is underway in the laboratory of Czech Technical University in Prague (CVUT). We need funding for next development stage, prototype manufacturing and testing. We need you.

The Sun, wind and water are an inexhaustible energy source. Sun alone provides roughly 240 W per square metre of Earth’s surface – for free. Part of that energy we are able to use, but we fail to store and distribute it effectively. Many parts of the planet are not covered by any electricity grid – and distribution suffers loses anyway.
The solution is to generate electricity locally and use it effectively.
Imagine a world where energy is available to everyone.
SolRing is a gate to that world.
• It controls energy sources – a solar panel, wind turbine, water turbine
• It controls the battery – a car battery or other type of battery
• It controls the appliances – a computer, radio, LED lighting or any low-voltage appliance
• It communicates via an app in any smartphone
• It uses commonly available components – the cost is kept at minimum
What SolRing is not?
• It does not generate energy – available energy depends on the source. SolRing is an energy manager
• Its operation is dependent on other components (but it can react to a component failure)
• It is designed for low-voltage appliances (around 12 V) – not big appliances like an oven or a washing machine
